Administrative Reorganization Timeline

 

 

Þ    The full Appropriations Committee will take up the draft language proposed by its subcommittee.

Þ    The Appropriations Committee will propose legislation to the full House and Senate.

Þ    An entire budget bill (including the reorganization of school units) will go the House and then the Senate for action.

 

Þ    The Commissioner of Education will design one or more plans for the reorganization of schools into not more than 80 Regional School Units generally serving not less than 2,500 students each.

Þ    The Commissioner of Education will provide guidelines for the formation of a local Reorganization Planning Committee.

Þ    July 31, 2007 - each school unit must submit  one of the following:

§         Notification of intent to accept the state plan.

§         Notification of intent to submit an alternative plan.

Þ    August 15, 2007 - Department of Education will approve or disapprove all alternate plans.

Þ    November 15, 2007 – Submission of a completed reorganization plan approved by the Commissioner of Education.

Þ    December 1, 2007 – Commissioner of Education will return any plans that do not meet the requirements for revision.

Þ    December 21, 2007 – Submission of Revised Plans.

Þ    December 31, 2007 – Approval or Disapproval of Revised Plans.

Þ    January 15, 2008 – A certificate of organization will be issued to all approved Regional School Units.

Þ    The State Board of Education will develop and approve a reorganization plan for all schools that are not issued a certificate of organization.

Þ    Election of new School Boards for the soon to open Regional School Units.

Þ    July 1, 2008 New Regional School Units open.
